It gives an awesome preview of what’s to come from Melophobia the release of this third album definitely can’t come soon enough. Sadly, their song hasn’t been released on iTunes or Spotify yet so if you dig the song, you can listen to it right here.Time shakes, found you at the water At first you were my father, now I love you like a brother Earthquakes shake the dust behind you This world at times will blind you Still I know I'll see you there Come a little closer, then you'll see Come on, come on, come on Things aren't always what they seem to be Come on, come on, come on Do you understand the things that you would see here Come on, come on, come on Do you understand the things that you've been dreaming Come a little closer, then you'll see Heartbreaks, the heavy world's upon your shoulders Will we burn or we just smolder Somehow I know I found you there Ooh, wanna see if you can change it, change it Still I know, I see you there Come a little closer, then you'll see Come on, come on, come on Things aren't always what they seem to be Do you understand the things that you would see here Come on, come on, come on Do you understand the things that you've been dreaming Come a little closer, then you'll see Come a little closer, then you'll see Ten thousand people stand alone now And in the evening the sun sets Tomorrow it will rise Time flies by, they all sing along Time flies by, they all sing along Time flies by, they all sing along Time flies bye bye Come a little closer, then you'll see Come on, come on, come on Come a little closer, then you'll see Come a little closer, then you'll see Come a little closer, then you'll see Even the epic light drum and guitar instrumental build-up right before the bridge just makes you feel pumped to belt out the final chorus.Ĭage the Elephant has always stayed pretty consistent in my book and “Come a Little Closer” will no doubt be playing all over the radio faster than you can say the band’s name. The best thing about this song is the fact that it gradually gets more powerful and passionate with each chorus. The country twang in Shultz’s voice has been replaced by haunting echoes throughout the track that really make it more grown up-sounding yet it still has a fun, psychedelic aspect to it that makes you literally feel like you should be looking through a kaleidoscope. Lead singer Matthew Shultz incorporates the perfect amount of antagonization in the questions he asks us in the chorus (“Do you understand the things that you would see here?” and “Do you understand the things that you’ve been dreaming?”) as well as moodiness when he repeatedly wails “Time flies by, they all sing along” in the bridge. While the instrumentation is a tad Beck-like with some very Foster the People-esque qualities in the vocal styling, “Come a Little Closer” is a big ball of epicness in the fact that it shows that they are evolving as a band. Official music video for the 2006 CMT Hottest Music Video of the Year featuring Actress/Sports Reporter/Model Bonnie-Jill Laflin. They’ve been riding high on the success from 2008’s “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked” and 2010’s “Shake Me Down,” but this new track looks like it’ll be the start of a new chapter in this indie-alternative band’s sound journey.

Of course, the teaser for “Come a Little Closer” only made us want more so thank sweet baby Jesus that they didn’t make us wait longer than a week to be able to hear the full version of the song on their VEVO channel. At the beginning of the month, Cage the Elephant decided to taunt all of their adoring fans with a snippet of the newest single from their upcoming album, Melophobia.
